Wild Ass Sanctuary is home to the last of the Indian wild ass, is the largest wildlife sanctuary in India. It is spread over almost 5,000 sq. km. The sanctuary was set up in 1973 to protect the endangered wild ass. Wild Ass creatures look like a cross between a donkey and a horse. They’re slightly bigger than a donkey, and are fast and strong like a horse. They can run an average of 50 kilometers an hour over long distances! Many other kinds of wildlife at the sanctuary, such as wolves, desert foxes, jackals, antelopes, and snakes. It’s close to wetlands, so there are plenty of birds as well. There are two main gates to the sanctuary Dhrangadhra and Bajana.

Chari River means salt affected and Dhand means that shallow land, Dhand is a Sindhi word for a shallow saucer shaped depression. this can be a seasonal desert wetland and only gets swampy throughout a good monsoon, receiving water from the north flowing rivers additionally as from the huge catchment areas of the many surrounding huge hills. it’s home to almost 2 lakh birds with migratory and species of birds flocking into the area in thousands throughout monsoon and winters. The abundance of water throughout the monsoons attracts birds to the present one in all India’s unique wasteland. Banni Grasslands Reserve is known for rich wildlife and biodiversity and are spread across an area of 3,847 square kilometres. It is form a belt of arid grassland ecosystem on the outer southern edge of the desert of the marshy salt flats of Rann of Kutch in Kutch District, Gujarat State, India. They are currently legally protected under the status as a Protected Forest in India. Banni Grasslands Reserve are home to mammals such as Nilgai, Chinkara, Blackbuck, Wild boar, Golden Jackal, Indian Hare, Indian Wolf, Caracal, Asiatic Wildcat and Desert Fox etc.

Banni Grasslands Reserve was first declared a Protected Forest in May 1955, using the Indian Forest Act, 1927. Since then, the actual transfer of the land from the Revenue department to the Forest department has not been completed. Gujarat state’s forest department has recently proposed a special plan to restore and mange this ecosystem in the most efficient way. Wildlife Institute of India (WII) has identified this grassland reserve as one of the last remaining habitats of the Cheetah in India and a possible reintroduction site for the species.

Royal Chhataris is the memorials to those not actually buried there and, in this case, not buried at all but cremated. Many of the monuments are in ruins due to earthquakes, but those of Lakhpatji, Raydhanji II and Desarji are still quite intact. The site is very quiet, out in the middle of a field, not surrounded by buildings, and is very peaceful in morning or evening, though in afternoon it can be quite hot under bright sun.
