Alappuzha or Alleppey is also home to Kuttanad, The rice bowl of kerala, one of the very few places in the world where farming is done below sea level. In Alleppey or Alappuzha, the life revolves around water. Cildren learn to swim before they walk. They learn to row boats before they bicycle. They learn their first lesson from the school of fish. Alappuzha or Aleppey was once the busiest coast south of Mumbai, and its canals and backwaters helped in the passage of cargo – be it tea, rubber or other produces from the hills – to the sea.
Kuttanad is a land of lush paddy fields and stretches for 75 Km sandwiched between the sea and the hills.

Pilavalapp

India / Kerala/ Kasargod/ Kasargod

Sight Address : Pilavalapp, Kasaragod, India Edit

Detail InformationEdit

Pilavalapp, it was very difficult to find this place. We reached after a lot of enquiries and guessing a lot. This place is part of the rich mythology of Kerala. this is very unique temple complex owned and managed by a family. The main temple in the same property as the house of the family who own the temple while two idols are located inside the household itself. The sanctum sanctorum has two idols that of Vishnu moorthy and Thondachan (a local version of Lord Shiva) both of which are made with jack fruit wood. Just facing the sanctum santum sanctorum is Gulikan. The Pannikulathi Chamundi (a variant of GoddessParvati) and Kurathi (a regional goddess, again a variant of Goddess Parvati) are located inside the house. Just outside the house there is place supposed to have been visited by Goddess Kodungalloor Bhagavati and hence a small structure is built around that spot. The family currently headed by Mr. Vasu are not supposed to raise funds for any purpose related to the temple and are to use only family funds for its upkeep, maintenance and conducting periodic festivals. However, there is no restriction on a visiting devotee making any offerings voluntarily. A must see if you are in Kasaragode. It is actually very difficult to locate in spite of being very close to the land mark Malik Deenar Mosque.
