Chidiya Tapu, also known as the bird island, is located 25kms from Port Blair in the southern most tip of South Andaman. Chidiya Tapu is a small village with lush green mangroves, tranquil islands, and forest bestowed with numerous chirping birds, making it an ideal picnic spot. Chidiya Tapu, well known for its rich collection of birds, white spotted deer and orchids, draws many visitors, and is a perfect place for nature lovers. The sky of Chidiya Tapu is filled with around 46 species of birds namely, drongos, hanging parrot, scarlet minivet, emerald dove, long-tailed and red-breasted parakeets, white-bellied sea eagles and grey-fronted and imperial green pigeons to name a few.
Chidiya Tapu is well known for its green landscape, enthralling beaches, variety of corals, vivid butterflies and most significantly, the exquisite view of the setting sun in the horizon. The main attractions here include the Chidiya Tapu Biological Park, Chidiya Tapu Beach, the Sylvan Sands and the Munda Pahar beaches. There is a forest guest house located atop the hillock that offers a panoramic view of the entire village as well as islands beyond. The water in this region is alive with bright corals which makes it an excellent site for snorkelling. Incidentally, Chidiya Tapu Beach offers a variety of sea shells which makes shell craft a prime industry of the Chidiya Tapu. Some of the shell products which are sold here are table lamps, ashtrays, bangles, decorative boxes and show pieces.

Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park (Wandoor), was created 24 May 1983 under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 to protect marine life such as the corals and nesting sea turtles prevalent in the area. It was placed under the protection of the Chief Wildlife Warden of the forest department of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The islands are uninhabited land although, per the 1981 census, there is a population of 3000 living in 8 adjacent villages.

The Cellular Jail, also known as Kālā Pāani (Black Water), was a colonial prison situated in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. The prison was used by the British especially to exile political prisoners to the remote archipelago. Many notable dissidents such as Batukeshwar Dutt and Veer Savarkar, among others, were imprisoned here during the struggle for India’s independence. Today, the complex serves as a National Memorial Monument.

Cellular jail located in Port Blair, is a mute witness to the tortures meted out to the freedom fighters, who were incarcerated in this jail. The Cellular jail, completed in the year 1906 acquired the name “CELLULAR” because it is entirely made up on individual cells for the solitary confinement of the prisoners. The jail, now a place of pilgrimage for all freedom loving people, has declared as a National Memorial. Indian Travel Agent offers Visit India and explore India. Although the prison complex itself was constructed between 1896 and 1906, the British had been using the Andaman islands as a prison since the days in the immediate aftermath of the 1857 War of Independence. The Ross Island Prison Headquarters, 1872. Shortly after the rebellion was suppressed, the British executed many rebels. Those who survived were exiled for life to the Andamans to prevent them re-offending. 200 rebels were transported to the islands under the custody of the jailer David Barry and Major James Pattison Walker, a military doctor who had been warden of the prison at Agra. Another 733 from Karachi arrived in April, 1868. More prisoners arrived from India and Burma as the settlement grew.Anyone who belonged to the Mughal royal family, or who had sent a petition to Bahadur Shah Zafar during the Rebellion was liable to be deported to the islands. Port Blair – Viper New Jails under construction . The remote islands were considered to be a suitable place to punish the rebels. Not only were they isolated from the mainland, the overseas journey (Kala Pani) to the islands also threatened them with loss of caste, resulting in social exclusion. The convicts could also be used in chain gangs to construct prisons, buildings and harbour facilities. Many died in this enterprise. They served to colonise the island for the British.

The Andaman Water Sports Complex, also known as the Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex, is located close to the Cellular Jail in the north-west part of Port Blair. The sports complex offers a range of water sports facilities and adventures. Activities like sail boating, parasailing, paddle boating, water scooters, rowing, water skiing, etc. are possible in the water sports complex. Besides the water activities for all age groups, the monument commemorating the Battle of Aberdeen can be seen within the complex structures. The artificial waterfall in the region is also another attraction. There is a children’s park nearby. These features of the Andaman Water Sports Complex and the easy communication have made the place popular. Many tourists staying over for a few days come to the place for training in different water sports activities.

Andaman Water Sports Complex is a well known sports complex in India. The unique sports complex offers many adventurous water sports activities. It is located close to the Cellular Jail and Aberdeen Bazar in the north-west Port Blair. A marvellous monument, built to honour the historical fight Battle of Aberdeen, fought between the Britishers and Andamanese Aboriginals in 1859 add to the beauty of this region. There is an artificial waterfall as well, which is a great attraction among the visitors. A children park and Marina Park adjacent to this place adds to the serene environment.

Luturu Mahadev Temple is a Popular tourist destination Devoted to the Hindu God Shiva, this temple was built by the king of Baghal in 1621.
According to a myth, Lord Shiva appeared in the king’s dream and asked him to build the temple. A prominent site during the Shivratri festival, the temple houses a Shivalingam, the symbol of the deity. Located on top of a hill, the temple is a classic example of Shikhara style architecture. It offers a splendid view of the surroundings as it is situated at a high altitude.

Taxi : Local transport in Shimla is really good there are many taxi services are easily available within the city to reach this site.

Bus : Shimla is well connected with an extensive road network. There is an all-weather road leading to the hill resort, from Chandigarh, Mandi and Delhi. You can easily get State Transport as well as private buses for reaching Shimla from New Delhi. Infact, the high-end Volvo buses also cater to tourists going to Shimla. HPRTC buses offer bus connectivity from all cities in Himachal Pradesh to Shimla. Frequent ordinary and deluxe bus services are available from Delhi to Shimla. Overnight buses are available from Delhi (360 km, 9 hours, Rs 900 for AC Volvo bus) and Chandigarh (120 km, 4 hours and Rs 500 for AC Volvo bus).
The local transport system consists of buses. The local buses ply along the circular road which creates a ring around the city. The buses are a good way to get around the city and they are inexpensive.

Train : Shimla has a meter gauge railway station. It connects to the nearest broad gauge station at Kalka, which is at a distance of 89 km from Shilmla. Kalka has good connectivity from Chandigarh (Kalka Shatabdi), Ambala (Barmer Klk Exp), Delhi (Himalayan Queen), Mumbai (Paschim Express) and Kolkata (Howrah-Kalka). There are no direct trains from Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore. Taxi services are available from Kalka to Shimla and charge is about Rs 1,750. Kalka is well connected to all major cities in India by rail. After getting down at Airport take an auto-rickshaw, bus or hire a taxi to reach this site.
