Jaisalmer in Rajasthan is also known as ‘Golden City’. The sand city boasts beautiful natural beauty alongside having a number of tourist attractions. The rich history of the place is reflected from the various historical structures of the place. The city of Jaisalmer has a rich history. It was founded in the year 1156 by one of the famous Bhatti Rajputs, Jaisala. The city also got its name from its founder. The history of the city is even richer because it is the place where the Rajput clans had spent their best times. On visiting the golden fort in the city, tourists also get to see the royal upheavals of the ester years.

By Air : There is no airport in Jaisalmer. Nearest airport is Jodhpur, which is at a distance of 285 km from Jaisalmer. The Jodhpur airport is connected with flights to and from other major cities of India. Pre-paid taxi service is available from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer, which costs about Rs 4000. Jodhpur airport : 0291 251 2934.
By Train : Jaisalmer railway station is an important railway station in Western railway zone. It is connected to Delhi (Jsm Dli Express), Jodhpur(Jsm Ju Express), Jaipur (Mandor Express) and other cities in India. This train takes about 6 hours for journey and cost about Rs 120. Jaisalmer railway station: 02992-52406.
By BUS : There are many semi deluxe and deluxe buses to Jodhpur at regular intervals. Deluxe A/C buses are also available from Jaisalmer to Jaipur, Ajmer and Bikaner. Rajasthan state buses connect Jaisalmer with neighboring cities. The price of the tickets is approximately Rs2-3 per km.
By Taxi : Jaisalmer is well connected by a road network and national highways. The tourist can reach to Jaisalmer by taxi. The normal Indian taxi charges of Rupees 8 to 20 will be charged for each km.
