HistoryEdit

The tiger reserve was formed later. Prior to the decision, it was a small 80sq km region hunting ground for the Maharaja. This Bandipur National Park was born in 1931 when it occupied 800 sq. km of the total land of the Bandipur Reserve Forest. Following this, in 1973, the Bandipur Tiger Reserve was formed that has taken a great care of significant, but consistent increase in the number of tigers. In the historic days, the Maharajas (kings) of the nearby Mysore city regarded the Bandipur forests as a private game reserve. Since its inception, as it is situated under the canopy of the Western Ghats, the Bandipur National Park is undoubtedly among the superb habitats for the Asian Elephant and Gaurs.

HistoryEdit

Aligarh was known till the 18th century by the earlier name of Kol. After the British occupation of Aligarh in September 1803, the present Aligarh district was formed in 1804.Both Akbar and Jahangir visited Kol on hunting expeditions. Jahangir clearly mentions the forest of Kol, where he killed wolves. From the study of the place-names of the district, it appears that the district was once fairly well covered by forest, thickets and grooves. The early history of the district, indeed down the 12th century AD is obscure. Kol or Koil, was the earliest name of the city and Aligarh was the name of the fort nearby. Kol covered not only the city but the entire district, though its geographical limits kept changing from time to time. The origin of the name of Kol is obscure. In some ancient texts, Kol has been referred to in the sense of a tribe or Caste, name of a place or mountain and name of a sage or demon. During the time of Ibrahim Lodhi, when Muhammad, son of Umar was the governor of Kol, he built a fort at Kol and named the city after his own name as Muhammadgarh in 1524-25; and Sabit khan who was the governor of this region during the time of Farrukh Siyar and Muhammad Shah, rebuilt the fort and named the town after his own name Sabitgarh. After the occupation of Kol by the Jats in 1775, it was re-named Ramgarh and finally, when a Shia commander, Najaf khan, captures Kol, he gave it its present name of Aligarh.

Aizawl is capital of the state of Mizoram in India. It is believed the Mizo people came from China and settled here about 300 years ago. Mizoram, in the 18th century, had an autocratic political system, ruled by hereditary chieftains. In the 1890s, the British annexed the Lushai Hills (as the hills of Mizoram are commonly known as) district to Assam. During the British rule, Christian missionaries were encouraged to come to Mizoram to proselytise and preach. They did and as a consequence, almost 95% of the Mizo population is Christian. The indigenous Buddhist and animist tribes such as the Chakmas and Reangs have been persecuted and even driven out of the state.

Bharatpur

India /Rajasthan /Bharatpur /Bharatpur

Even if counting the feathers of a bird and watching them closely is just a pastime for you then welcome to Bharatpur for this is a place that would surely answer your questions as to why Dr Salim Ali was so fascinated with birds. It is not the beauty or the variety but sheer enormity of the region and the ease with which the birds have accepted this meager offering from us human, makes Bharatpur area and its surroundings a paradise to visit. Bharatpur used to be one of the most important princely states located on the edges of Thar Desert. The land being marshy was always conducive for birds and animals searching water to quench their parched lips and throats. The best part about Bharatpur is the location of the place which is very convenient for tourists from many states to access it. The area being a part of desert experiences extreme climates. Founded by Maharaja Suraj Mal in 1733, Bharatpur was once the capital of Jat Kingdom ruled by Sinsinwar Maharajas. In fact, this land of the Jats has its own historical significance and tells many stories of braveries against the attacks by Mughals and the British. The area is also famous for the forts, palaces and the Mughal and Rajput architecture visible almost everywhere. The Land, its people and the architecture tell an impassive story about these fighters who survived and flourished in these hostile conditions. Best season to visit Bharatpur is between October and March.
