Badrinath is a holy town and a nagar panchayat in Chamoli district in the state of Uttarakhand, India. It is the most important of the four sites in India’s Char Dham pilgrimage and gets its name from the Holy temple of Badrinath. The Badrinath temple is the main attraction in the town. According to legend Shankara discovered a black stone image of Lord Badrinarayan made of Saligram stone in the Alaknanda River. He originally enshrined it in a cave near the Tapt Kund hot springs.

Taxi : Private taxies and other vehicles are also available between Rishikesh and Badrinath on hire. A Cab will charge about Rs 3,000-4,000 for travel from Dehradun to Badrinath.
BUS : There are many public and private buses from New Delhi, Rishikesh and Haridwar. Special tourist daily buses are also available from these places to Badrinath. It costs about Rs 700-900 per passenger.
Train : The nearest railway station to Badrinath is Rishikesh. Rishikesh railway station is situated 295kms before Badrinath on NH58. Rishikesh is well connected by railway networks with major destinations of India. Trains to Rishikesh are frequent. Badrinath is well connected by motorable roads with Rishikesh. Taxis and buses are available from Rishikesh, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Joshimath and many other destinations to Badrinath.
Air : Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the nearest airport to Badrinath. It is a domestic airport 326 km away from Badrinath and a Cab will charge about Rs 3,000-4,000 for travel from Dehradun to Badrinath. Nearest International airport is New Delhi (491 km), which is well connected to most of the major foreign cities.
Others : The journey will take around 10-12 horses and ponies leave around every half hour early in the mornings from 4 a.m. to 7 a.m.
