Dolphin’s Nose is essentially a huge rock that resembles the nose of a dolphin. There are ravines on either side of Dolphin’s Nose, including St. Catherine Falls and Coonoor stream meeting the Kotagiri stream. These water bodies are tributaries of the Bhavani River. On a bright sunny day, visitors can get a glimpse of St. Catherine Falls from the top of Dolphin’s Nose. The Catherine Falls is located at a distance of 7 km from Coonoor. Dolphin’s Nose is ideal for outdoor games, like boating and horse riding, as well as picnics. On the way to Dolphin’s Nose, tourists can also visit Lamb’s Nose in Coonoor.

Droog Fort, at an elevation of 6000 feet from sea level. The site is in fact the ruins of a dilapidated fort built by Tipu Sultan. A crumbling wall stands as a remainder of the once proud fortress. There is a watch tower at the top from where one can get breathtaking views of the misty surroundings. Birdwatchers can have a good time as a lot of rare species of birds populate the area. One has to trek for almost 3 kilometres through tea estates and shrubs to reach the summit. Vehicles can go only upto Tantea estate after which it is a steep climb upwards. The trek may prove a bit difficult for elders and children. Catherine Falls, Lamb’s Rock, Sim’s Park, Law’s Falls, Dolphin’s Nose, Katary Falls, Wellington’s Golf Course and St. George’s church are other famous tourist points near the fort.

Sanctuary Avalanche is a wild life sanctuary located in Nilgiris. This sanctuary was named after an avalanche that took place in 1823. This natural paradise has an extensive cover of water bodies, shola trees, rhododendrons, and orchids. Trekking enthusiasts keep flocking here to try their hands at the various trekking trails, the most popular one being the trek along Bhawani River. One can also trek up to the adjoining hills to enjoy an eagle’s eye view of Ooty. Sanctuary Avalanche has a vast variety of flora and fauna and is a wonderful place for people who enjoy wild life. One can also visit Avalanche Lake, where boating facilities are available. Sanctuary Avalanche is the best site for trout fishing.
