Hebbal Lake is one of the oldest and most popular lakes in Bangalore. It is well known as a habitat for numerous exotic local and migratory birds. The Hebbal Lake is a seasonal lake that dries up in the summer and regains its glory along with the monsoon rains every year. The surroundings of the lake are beautified by the presence of a large number of tall green trees. It is as if the lake stands as a green oasis in a city that is reshaping the skyline with new concrete high-rises every day. Various flowering plants having flowers of different colours make the lake more attractive for visitors. The walkway around the lake is well maintained and is a nice place to enjoy a leisurely walk. Visitors are often delighted to watch the various species of local birds and the confluence of migratory birds that flock to the lake every year. The lake was home to about 70 species of water birds that included some very rare birds from the Himalayas and other Central Asian regions.

Tipu Sultan Palace, identical to the Daria Daulat which is another palace of Tipu Sultan. Emperor referred to it as the ‘Rash-e-Jannat’, meaning abode of happiness and envy of heaven. Commissioned by Hyder Ali, the construction was completed under the reigns of Tipu Sultan. this beautiful palace has been converted into a museum, which gives visitors insight into the life of the emperor. Museum is maintained and managed by the Archaeological Survey of India. The double-storey structure comprises flowery wooden artwork adoring the columns, curves and balconies. Visitors can even stroll in the gardens, on both sides of the palace. The garden in the palace premises encompasses wonderfully cusped rosewood arches, fluted stone pillars and frescos.

Lalbagh Botanical Garden in Bangalore is an internationally renowned centre for botanical artwork, scientific study of plants and also conservation of plants. The lush green garden is spread over an area of 240 acres in the heart of the city with nearly 1,854 species of plants and 673 genera. The collection of the plants here has made it a veritable treasure house of plants. Originally commissioned by Hyder Ali, the ruler of Mysore, it was later finished by his son Tipu Sultan. Hyder Ali laid out this popular botanical garden and his son added horticultural wealth to them by importing trees and plants from countries all over the world. Commissioned in the 18th century, it has acquired the subcontinent’s largest collection of rare plants and India’s first lawn-clock over the years. The garden features the famous glass house which hosts an annual flower show, it also houses India’s largest collection of tropical plants, an aquarium and a lake within the premises.

Kodanad View Point the most popular attraction in this area and located at a height of about 6500 feet. Kodanad view point offers its visitors the breathtaking beauty of the Blue Hill Mountains and views of the plains. From here tourist can see the green carpeted paddy fields of Thengumarahada village lying below, the Bhavanisagar dam’s reservoir, the many Tea Estates and the Moyar River. The Moyar gorge located between the Deccan plateau and the Nilgiri plateau, joins the river Bhavani across the valley. One can also enjoy the view of Rangaswamy Peak and Pillar from the watch tower located here and the beautiful sunset. During the monsoon, the view is often obscured because of monsoon clouds towering up into the sky and the mysterious rising mist. .

Taxi : Ooty is well connected by a road network and national highways 67. The tourist can reach to Ooty by taxi. The normal Indian taxi charges of Rupees 8 to 20 will be charged for each km.

Bus : Ooty is well connected with all most all south Indian cities by bus. There are regular bus services from Mysore (Rs 300), Bangalore (Rs 600), Chennai (Rs 650) and also from many cities in Kerala. State owned and private vehicles ply on this route. Many tourist services providers offer package trips to Ooty from many south Indian cities. These will charge about Rs 4 per km.

Train : The hill station of Ooty has a railway station of its own. It is called the Udhagamandalam railway station and can be reached by The Nilgiri Mountain Railway (a.k.a. Toy Train) from Mettupalayam which is 47 km away from Ooty, is the nearest major railway station. There are regular train services from Coimbatore and Chennai to Mettupalayam. Mettupalayam and Conoor are connected to Ooty with toy trains. Taxis are available from Mettupalayam to Ooty and fare is about Rs 1,000. Udhagamandalam railway station: 0423-2442246.

Air : There is no airport in ooty. Coimbatore airport is the nearest airport and is around 105 km from Ooty. A number of private airlines give provide services to Coimbatore.
