The Khutbah Mosque is the first mosque in Pondicherry, which was constructed in the 17th century. The word Khutbah means preaching and there is daily preaching and prayer session held at the mosque, along with special Friday prayers. It was situated in the white area, where French colonial rulers ordered the Islamic neighbourhood to shift to the southern end. Tourists visiting the destination can also go to the dargah of Moulla Saiubum. There is a small pond with fishes and a clean hall in this mosque, along with Jenesha. Promenade Beach was once the most popular beach in Pondicherry, and a delight to both tourists and locals alike. The Promenade is on Beach Road (also known as Goubert Avenue), one of the main boulevards’s of the town, and runs along the shore for 1.5 km. The entire heritage town is within walking distance of the Promenade. This beach can be accessed from the Chunnambar Resort. Flanked by an estuary on one side, the beach can only be accessed by boat. Its shallow waters and small waves make it a popular place for swimming. Much of this long stretch of beach has been lost to erosion caused by the construction of groynes along the coast to the south. It is also heavily used by local fishermen, who require what remains of the beach to launch their traditional catamarans.

Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, this temple is a must visit for anyone visiting Pondicherry. The temple took its name from Tamil words Manal meaning sand and Kulam which stands for pond near the sea. Initially, the temple premises were full of sand around the ponds and hence the name. Earlier, the temple was known as Bhuvaneshar Ganapathy as it is devoted to one of 16 forms of Lord Ganesha. Apart from the regular festivals, the temple also celebrates Brahmothsavam, which is the largest festival dedicated to Lord Manakula Vinayagar every year during the months of August and September. The 24-day festival draws a lot of visitors who want to celebrate this festival with much pomp and grandeur.

Manakula Vinayagar Temple was in existence before the French came and settled in Pondicherry i.e. before 1666. According to mythology, Lord Ganesha is named in 16 types based on his various forms out which this God facing the east cost near Bay of Bengal it has been named as Bhuvaneshar Ganapathy, now called as Manakula Vinayagar.
