Akasha Ganga Theertham

HistoryEdit

This holy theertha is found it’s rendering in the Vedas and it is believed that Akasa Ganga Teertham originates from the lotus feet of the main deity. This sacred torrent gains predominance over the others since all the rituals are conducted with the holy waters of this theertha. In the early days, the priestess took turns to carry the water all the way from this part of jungle to the temple in the morning hours by the rough walk path that meanders through the forest even to this day. After the Tirumala Tirupati Devsthanam came into existence, water lines were laid into the temple and thus simplified!

Ramakrishna Theertham is situated approximately 6 miles to the north of the main Sri Venkateswara Temple, Tirupati, India. Edit

Detail InformationEdit

Ramakrishna Theertham is associated with a spiritual legend of Lord Srinivasa. People believe that a person named Krishna dug this pool. After some time, a sage came to this place and started to meditate. As he meditated here for a long time, an anthill gradually grew around him. In order to test his devotion, the God of Rain, Indra sent down rainstorm with bright lightening and heavy thunders on earth. But all his efforts failed to disrupt the sage’s concentration. In the meantime, Lord Srinivasa broke that anthill and appeared in front of his ardent devotee. Lord was overwhelmed with his devotion and thus gave boon that whoever will take a bath in this pond on a full moon day, his sins and sorrows would get cleansed. The sage meditating here was Ramakrishna and thereby this holy place got its name as Ramakrishna Theertham. One should come here to feel the serenity, which is all around this place and is sure to end all your difficulties.

HistoryEdit

Once Panadavas and Kouravas, the two royal families fought with each other. Finally the Pandava princes won the battle (Mahabharatha) and attained their Kingdom. Dharmaraja, the eldest among them, was worried that they killed in the war all their relatives, elders and even acharyas. He asked Sri Krishna, “O Lord Vasudeva! For the simple reason of winning back my kingdom. I had to kill all my relatives in the war. This sin is the most direst. Can you guide me to redeem this by any means?” Sri Krishna Said, “There is a hill known as Venkata. By bathing in a particular lake your sins will be washed away.” Dharamaraja came to the hills with his four brothers and wife and to the particular lake to redeem their sins. Later the thirtham was known as Pandava Thirtham. Dharmaraja ruled his Kingdom happily for several years.

Tumburu Theertham is located at Tirumala and it is deep in the jungles. It is around 6 km from Papanasam into the jungles. Edit

Detail InformationEdit

Tumburu Theertham is one of the natural watercourses, which dates back to the Vedic ages. Story behind the formation of the theertham states that a Gandharva cursed sage Agastya’s lazy wife to became a toad that had to survive in this pond till the sage arrived. HistoryEdit

Legend has it that Tumburu Gandharva had cursed his lazy wife to become a frog and live in the lake in Tirumala. Tumburu Gandharva later repented and told his wife that she will attain her previous form when Sage Agastya will reach the spot and narrate about its holiness. After several years, Sage Agastya reached the spot with his students. He sat below a tree in which the frog had found refuge. The Sage narrated about the holiness of the cave – it is believed that one attains moksha or liberation by bathing in the Tirth.
