Tarkarli has been bestowed with a long coastline which is ideal for those long romantic and nostalgia filled walks. The feeling of soft sand under your nimble toes and the presence of clear water and sky along with the cleanest of breathing air provides a heady feeling. Not to forget that the beach is also the trusted zone for the female turtles. It is not uncommon to find a turtle lazing on the beach or hatching and protecting its eggs. The beach has silk smooth sand along the stretch. Again the water is so pure that the seabed is visible even if you venture out at the sea.

Shree Bharadi Devi Temple is lies in the town of Malvan. The idol of Goddess Bharadi Devi is enshrined in the inner sanctum. The prime offering at the temple is Otti, which is a combined offering of a coconut and a blouse piece. An annual fair is organised at the shrine during which masks, sarees and ornaments are offered to the goddess.

Goddess Bharadidevi of Angnewadi village is renowned all over. It is believed that her image has occurred in a self existent rock form. The Goddess is said to fulfil the wishes of any person who asks for her favour. Once in a year devotees from Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka come together in a village for pilgrimage. According to tradition, the Goddess is offered `Otti` (Coconut and Blouse Piece). According to ritual, the devi is adorned with a mask, saree and ornaments, and the offering of Otti commences after this and it is continued throughout the day of the fair. The local people who are entitled to honour and respect come and sit together in a temple on a Dali (Mat Made up of Bamboo) and decide a day of for holding a fair. The women from different households cook food after their bath, and the food is offered as Prasad to the Devi. This Prasad is called Tat Lagne. The prasad is then distributed among the pilgrims who show their presence in thousands during the fair day.

Tondavali Beach, this is perhaps the true manifestation of an untouched beach. It was one of the most difficult beaches for me to uncover. I had to hike almost a km from the road to get to the shore but it was totally worth the drain. When I first saw a glimpse of the shore from the end of the tree thickets, I could identify with a feeling of someone who discovers new land. Not a single soul here and the sand had just patterns of sea wind. Fine grains of soft white particles urged me to feel them without my footwear. Cool waters splashing away you almost feel sorry no one watches this phenomenon abundantly.

This is one of the most commercially active beaches in the Konkan. It is buzzing with life at the jetty where most of the fishermen anchor their boats of various dimensions and colors. There are a few bars and restaurants on the beach unlike most other seashores on the Sindhudurg coast. Especially to try here is a humble seafood specialty joint called Khot, run by an ex mechanical engineer. It is one of the friendliest atmospheres alive with banter among the locals. It is close to the city centre and perhaps the most accessible beach in the area. Another promising forthcoming attraction here is a one of its kind marine park in Asia. The area of Malvan is a fortified island on the coastal reef. Coral patches have been recorded in the interstitial regions around the Sindhudurg fort. Most of these marine flora and fauna from the inter-tidal area is exposed during any low tide. So keep an eye out for a great opportunity for scuba diving. However, for now the best attraction on this beach remains to be the Sindhudurg fort.
