HistoryEdit

Shanti Stupa was built by both Japanese Buddhists and Ladakh Buddhists. Original idea was stated by Nichidatsu Fujii (Fujii Guruji) in 1914.The mission of Nichidatsu Fujii was to build Peace Pagodas and temples over the world and try to resurrect Buddhism back in India.Construction of the Shanti Stupa began in April 1983 under the supervision of Bhikshu Gyomyo Nakamura and Kushok Bakula, a lama of Ladakh from New Delhi, member of the Minority commission of Govt of India, former statesman and former international diplomat of the Republic of India. The project was built with the help of LadakhiBuddhists, who offered voluntary labour, and Japanese Buddhists, who consider India as the “sacred” birth place of the Buddha. Then prime minister of India, Indira Gandhi, sanctioned the construction of a vehicular road to the stupa in 1984.The state government also provided some financial assistance for the construction of the Shanti Stupa.[citation needed] The 14th and current Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso inaugurated the Shanti Stupa in August 1991

Leh Palace

India /Jammu & Kashmir /Leh /Leh

Sight Address : Leh palace situated about 2 km from Leh. Edit

Detail InformationEdit

Leh Palace, an imposing and captivating marvelous structure, rises from the edge of a hill overlooking the Leh town, the well-known capital of Ladakh, and stretches out towards the indigo sky. Built in 17th century, this nine-storey monument was a residential place for the King Singge Namgyal.Situated about 2 km from Leh, the palace is easily reachable by taxi or jeep within 5 mins. It has a museum with some painted or embroidered scrolls and paintings amongst other things. This deserted edifice has a definite mystical quality about it and tourists are increasingly getting attracted towards it.

Leh Palace, Jammu, India

Leh Palace, Jammu, India

HistoryEdit

The imposing Leh Palace was built in the 17th century as a royal residence for King Singe Namgyal. It was desolated in the mid-19th century after the royal family left the palace and shifted to Stok Palace. The Leh Palace is now in ruins but, still retains an old sophisticated charm about it and provides spectacular views of the snow clad mountains and landscape. The majestic palace overlooks the Namgyal hill and is nestled amidst the beautiful Leh town. The strong walls of the palace are mostly bare and a few interior sections remain in a state of partial disintegration. Interestingly, only the palace prayer room gives some sense of former splendour. However, it’s exciting to weave your way through the maze of dark corridors and staircases and provisional ladders to reach the rooftop for a panoramic view across the city. The Leh Palace is nine storied, where the upper floors were occupied by the royal family and the lower floors were used as storerooms and stables. The palace displays an excellent example of the medieval Tibetan architecture, resembling the Potala Palace in Lhasa (Tibet), though comparatively smaller. The huge buttressed walls and suspended wooden balconies are the exciting features of the Tibetan architecture. Some frescos still adorn the walls of the Leh Palace and speak of the royal grandeur of the bygone era. Just above the Leh Palace is the famous Victory Tower that was built to commemorate the victorious brave Ladakhi soldiers who fought the invading armies of Balti Kashmiris in the early 16th Century. The Leh Palace also has a museum with an assortment of painted or embroidered thangkas (scrolls), paintings, jewellery, and ornaments, amongst other things. One will also find some ceremonial dresses, crowns, and centuries-old pieces of jewellery. Some of the paintings here are 450 years old. The colours are said to have been acquired from crushing and powdering gemstones.

Vaishno Devi Temple,Katra,India

HistoryEdit

According to popular folklore, the cave was used by the Mother Goddess to hide from a demon that she eventually killed. The main attractions of the shrine are the idols depicting the 3 forms of Vaishno Devi, namely Mahakali; the Hindu goddess of time and death, Mahasaraswati; the Hindu goddess of knowledge, and Mahalakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth and fortune. The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has been assigned the responsibility of maintaining this temple.Approximately 8 million devotees from around the country visit the Vaishno Devi Temple on an annual basis. This figure makes this shrine the second most visited temple in the country after the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple of Andhra Pradesh. Individuals interested in exploring Vaishno Devi Temple have to trek to the site.Ma Vaishno Devi was called Trikuta as a child. Later She was called Vaishnavi because of Her birth from Lord Vishnu’s lineage. When Trikuta was 9 years old, She sought her father’s permission for doing penance on the seashore. Trikuta prayed to Lord Vishnu in the form of Rama. During Shree Rama’s search for Sita, He reached the seashore with His army. His eyes fell on this Divine Girl in deep meditation. Trikuta told Shree Rama that She had accepted Him as Her husband. Shree Rama told Her that during this Incarnation He had vowed to be faithful to only Sita. However, pleased with her devotion, Lord Rama gave her name Vaishnavi (devotee of Lord Rama (Maha Vishnu)and assured Her that in Kaliyuga He would manifest as Kalki and would marry Her.
