Ukhimath is a pilgrimage site in Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand, India. It is at an elevation of 1311 metres and at a distance of 41 km from Rudraprayag. During the winters, the idols from Kedarnath temple, and Madhyamaheshwar are brought to Ukhimath and worshipped there for six months. Ukhimath can be used as center destination for visiting different places located nearby, i.e. Madhmaheshwar (Second kedar), Tungnath ji (Third kedar) and Deoria Tal(natural fresh water lake) and many other picturesque places. Wedding of Usha (Daughter of Vanasur) and Anirudh (Grandson of Lord Krishna) was solemnized here. By name of Usha this place was named as Ushamath, now known as Ukhimath. King Mandhata penances Lord Shiva here. During winter the Utsav Doli of Lord Kedarnath is brought from Kedarnath to this place. Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, situated in the districts of Chamoli and Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand, is spread over an area of 975 sq km. Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary is nestled amidst the Himalayas which is pregnant with snow capped mountainous peaks, lush green forests, lakes and glaciers, scenic valleys and contains a variety of birds and animals, along with diverse flora. It was established in 1972, mainly with the aim of protecting the rare and endangered Himalayan Musk Deer. Prior to this, the area was a Notified Reserve Forest, from 1916 and 1920. The name of the sanctuary is derived from the popular Hindu pilgrim destination of Kedarnath Temple, located on the northern region. The route from Gauri Kund to Kedarnath temple goes through the Kedarnath Wildlife sanctuary. It is also the biggest protected locale in the western Himalayas.

The airport operates daily flights to Delhi. Nearest International airport is Delhi (458 km).

Others : From Gaurikund, it’s a grueling uphill trek to the temple. Expect it to take around six hours. Those who don’t feel up to walking can opt to take a pony, which will reduce the duration of the trek by an hour. There are porters available to help carry luggage as well. Alternatively, Kedranath temple is also accessible by helicopter! Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd. (owned by the Indian Government) and Prabhatam Aviation (a private company) provide the services. A one way trip only takes 15 minutes. In terms of accommodations, basic GMVN Tourist Bungalows can be found at Gaurikund and at the temple.

Vasuki Tal is situated at an altitude of 4135 m above sea level and is about 8 km away from Kedarnath. The lake, situated amid magnificent Himalayan Ranges is considered to be one of the prominent tourist destinations of Uttarakhand. Travellers visiting this place can also enjoy the beauty of the Chaukhamba peaks, which are situated in the vicinity of this lake. Travellers have to pass over the glaciers of Chaturangi and Vasuki to reach this place. Crossing these glaciers is a difficult task and requires a lot of strength and stamina. Tourists are advised to visit this place between the months of June and October as during these months the temperature of the place is quite pleasant.

There are two mountains namely Kedarnath and Kedarnath dome, of which Kedarnath dome is the subpeak, located 2 km north-west of the main peak.
