Yumthang Valley is a place that is situated in the state of Sikkim. It is a popular place as it is a scenic location and one can get many breathtaking views from here. The valley is known for the many varieties of flowers that grow here and these include iris, primulas and poppies. The main flower in the region is the rhododendron. During the summer season the entire valley is covered with the rhododendrons and they are 24 species of these flowers that can be seen here. The River Teesta flows through the valley and there are a few shacks that can be seen along the banks. These are used by local herdsmen. The valley is a grazing ground and the local population brings their animals to graze during the summer. The main attraction of the place is the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary. It is also worth visiting the small town of Lachung. This is the nearest place that is inhabited in the region. There is a forest rest house that is present in the valley and this is the only permanent guest house in the area. The place can be reached from the town of Chungthang and this is the best place to stay in the region.

By Air : The town of Siliguri has the only airport in the region and this is the best option for those who are planning to arrive by air. The Bagdogra Airport is situated outside the town and the place has good connectivity to several cities across the country. You can reach the town from cites such as Chennai, Mumbai, New Delhi and Guwahati. There are three daily scheduled flights from the city of Kolkata. The best option is to travel to the town of Gangtok from the airport and hire a taxi from there.
By Train : Jalpaiguri station that is located in the town of Siliguri is the best option. Train connectivity to the station is excellent and one can reach the place from cities such as Chennai, Guwahati, New Delhi and many others. Taxis are available from here to Gangtok and also to the Yumthang Valley. They charge around RS 12 per kilometer for an SUV.
