Xieng Khouang has a unique landscape, situated in the northeastern remote provinces of Laos. It’s a beautiful town offering tourists to tour around the countryside and its various cultural groups and discover the unique and traditional village life of the people. This city is best known for its important, unusual and mysterious archeological finds, the “”Plain of Jars””. The enigmatic, Plain of Jars is an important site for studying the ancient history of mainland Southeast Asia.
The region has numerous giant stones, some measuring above 3 meters high, which can be found all over the plateau. These carved rocks are carved from the surrounding mountains and the mysterious fact is no one knows from where these rocks have come and for exactly what purpose. Apart of such unusual sites, Xieng Khouang holds other attractions such as the hot springs at Meuang Kham district and a popular historical site the Tham Piu cave which are worth visiting.
