The Wyoming Supreme Court is that the highest court within the U.S. State of Wyoming. The Court consists of a justice and 4 Associate Justices. Every Justice is appointed by the Governor of Wyoming for AN eight-year term. The 5 Justices choose the justice from amongst themselves. The person chosen is justice for four years. However, Richard V. Thomas of Cheyenne, a justice from 1974-2001, was justice just for 2 years, 1985-1986.
In 1974, justice Elmore John Leonard McEwan (1925-2008) stepped down from the judicature in Cheyenne to assume the Fourth District place in Sheridan, wherever he had earlier practiced law. McEwan is up to now the sole Supreme Court justice in Wyoming history to enraptured to a court place. McEwan was narrowly nonappointive to the judicature in 1968 on a nonpartisan ballot.
