The Whatcom depository (housed within the previous hall, Lightcatcher building and Syre Education Center) was originally in-built 1892 because the hall for the previous city of recent Whatcom, before it absolutely was joined with close cities to create Bellingham, Washington. The building was designed during a Late Victorian vogue by king Lee, a neighborhood creator, UN agency used red brick and Chuckanut arenaceous rock for its construction. The look itself was associate degree nearly actual reproduction of the second town county seat in town, Michigan (1884, Destroyed 1971), Designed by Fred W. Hollister.
At the time of construction, the building was set on a bluff on top of Bellingham Bay. However, over the years, important amounts of the city district were stuffed in to form additional land. Currently, the building sits on top of Maritime Heritage Park. The building served as hall till 1936, and have become a part of the depository in 1941. In 1962, the fireplace broken the building, however efforts from the community raised cash to revive the building. In 2009, The Whatcom depository opened a location within the new designed Lightcatcher building. The Lightcatcher, designed by Seattle-based Olson Kundig Architects, is called for its thirty seven feet high and one hundred eighty feet long semitransparent wall, that facilitates variety of energy saving methods. Currently, the Whatcom depository may be a 3 building field that has previous hall, Syre Education Center and Lightcatcher that encloses the Family Interactive Gallery (FIG).
