The Western Union Building in big apple town was engineered by patron saint B. Post, and was completed in 1875. This building was situated at 195 street, and served as a headquarters for the Western Union telegraph company from 1875 till its destruction in 1914. It had been 230 feet high, and had 10 floors, wherever a hundred telegraph operators worked twenty four hours on a daily basis. The building was flat-top by a tower, and a few claim that this building was the primary edifice in big apple.
Beginning in 1877, a ball was born from the highest of the building at specifically twelve noon, triggered by a telegraph from the National Observatory in Washington, D.C. This method, fancied by patron saint could Phelps, was later used because the initial reference for normal railway time in 1883, and would keep in use till 1912. The building was destroyed in 1914 to create manner for the new, taller, AT&T Headquarters at 195 street.
