The place enjoys a pleasant climate the whole year. Having an influential history, numerous evidences depicting new Stone Age civilization is seen on the Wayanad hills. Relicts and edicts are found in this place emphasizing the prehistoric epoch. According to the history, Wayanad was ruled by the Veda tribes, it was then taken by Pazhassi Rajas, and later Hyderali conquered Wayanad. When Tipu took over, he handed it to British. It was the British who introduced cash crops, laid roads and developed Wayanad significantly. The prominent festivals such as Onam, Maha shivaratri and Vishu display eternal harmony. Rice, rasam, sambhar, poricha kootu, moru kootan, avvial, pal payasam, and many more items make their food a classy food.

Wayanad, One of the fourteen districts in Kerala (India) is situated in an elevatedpicturesque mountainous plateau in Western Ghats, this station is full of plantations, forests and wildlife. Wayanad hills are contiguous to Mudumala in Tamil Nadu and Bandhipur in Karnataka, thus forming a vast land mass for the wild life to move about in its most natural abode.Wayanad is a district that is steeped in hoary history. The Edakkal caves is replete with etchings from a prehistoric civilization belonging to the Neolithic era, and have drawn the serious attention of archeologists and historians worldwide.

By Air : Nearest airport is Karipur international airport at Kozhikode, which is about 100 km away from Wayanad city. Karipur is connected to many cities in India including Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. Airline services are available from Karipur to many gulf countries, like Oman, Quatar, Kuwait and Saudi. Taxi Services are available from the airport to Wayanad costing about Rs 2,000.

By Train : Nearest Railhead to Wayanad is Kozhikode railway station, which is nearly 110 km from Wayanad. Taxi services are available from railway station to Wayanad costing about Rs 2,000. Kozhikode is well connected to all major cities in India and regular direct train services are available from Kozhikode to Trivandrum, Kochi, Chennai and Bangalore.

By Bus : KSRTC buses connect Wayanad with all nearby cities. Public super fast buses connect Wayanad with Trivandrum, Mangalore and Kochi. Deluxe bus services are available from Bangalore, Chennai and Trivandrum up to Kozhikode.

By Taxi : Many of the hotels in the city have arrangements with the local cabs and taxi services. These are usually mini vans or small cars. They may not be comfortable but they are cheap and quick way to get around the city. They cost approximately Rs 100 for short trips in the city center while for longer trips they may charge per km which is usually around Rs 13 per km. However, the rates can be negotiated and taxi drivers usually reduce the prices after bargaining.

By Other : Other local travel options include hiring cycles on an hourly basis. They are cheap and a good way to travel around the city. Cycles cost around Rs 50 per hour and the climate makes it an ideal way to travel around the city. However, they may not be available after dark and can be used only for short distances.
