Water Bird Sanctuary of the Ramanathapuram District is one of the best places to visit for bird watchers. This sanctuary features numerous water birds, especially during north-east monsoon season between October and January. The sanctuary has both native as well as migratory birds that come here for feeding and breeding respectively. Apart from this bird sanctuary, tourists can visit the nearby Kanjirankulam and Chittirankudi Sanctuaries in Ramanathapuram and the Arichamunai Bird Sanctuary at Dhanushkodi. Moreover, the five hundred water tanks in the Ramanathapuram district attract lot of migratory birds from Europe and Australia.
