Wat Phnom also known as the Temple of the Mountains or Mountain Pagoda is a Buddhist temple situated in Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia. It was built in 1373. This tallest religious structure of the city stands 27 metres above the ground. It is a sacred site and sanctuary for the people of Cambodia. The inside of the temple has a central altar complex and a large Buddha made of bronze. It is surrounded by many other statues, candles and flowers. The walls of the temple are covered with murals depicting Jataka stories of Buddha’s incarnations. Stories of Ramayana and Reamker are also depicted on the walls.
