The Walter Kerr Theatre may be a Broadway theatre. Settled at 219 West forty eighth Street, it’s closely-held and operated by Jujamcyn Theaters. One amongst the smaller auditoriums within the Theater District, it seats 975. The rostrum was designed by Herbert J. Krapp and engineered because the Ritz Theatre in 1921 by the Shubert family. It had been operated by first rudiment as a radio so tv studio between 1943 and 1965. Ths Shuberts sold-out the theatre to John Minary in 1956, UN agency sold-out it on to Joseph P. Blitz later that year. In 1963, it had been nonheritable by Roger Euster.; he sold-out his stake to Dutch Leonard B. Moore in 1964.
It remained vacant from 1965 to 1971, once it reopened with the musical presently, book by Martin Duberman, that closed when 3 performances. Though it housed variety of productions within the next 2 years, it had been became a children’s theater in 1973. Jujamcyn nonheritable the theatre in 1980. The last production to staged at the Ritz was Chu Chem. In 1989-1990 it had been restored and reopened, currently renamed for drama critic Walter Kerr, with August Wilson’s The music lesson. Since then it’s housed seven winners of the Tony Award for Best Play: Angels in America: Millennium Approaches, Angels in America: economic policy, Love! Valour! Compassion!, Proof, Take ME Out, Doubt, and Clybourne Park.
