Villondi Tirtham is another sacred place among the several pious places of Rameshwaram. It is said to be the spot where God Rama buried his big bow and hence the name ‘Villondi’ meaning ‘buried bow’. It is revered by the devotees of God Rama and is located on the road that goes to the chief Rameshwar temple; around 7 kilometers away as well as Pambam, another sacred place where Goddess Sita quenched her thirst after the arrow hit the sea.

According to the Epic, Lord Rama dipped his bow into the seawater to quench Goddess Sita’s thirst (His consort). For this reason, the place came to be known as Villoondi Theertham, where the word ‘Villoondi’ means ‘buried bow’.
