The Castle of Verrès is a fortified 14th century castle in the town Verrès of the Aosta Valley region of north-western Italy. It has been called one of the most impressive buildings from the Middle Ages in the area.
Every year the castle hosts the Verrès historic carnival, which celebrates the Legends of countess Catherine de Challant and count Pierre d’Introd.
Verrès castle has a large tower; its dimensions being cubical with all sides measuring 30 meters, which acted duly as a defense and housing accommodations for its inhabitants. The tower is 3 stories tall[1] and is accessible by a large Grand staircase.It stands above the River Evançon on the rocky cliffside which also overlooks the commune that lies below it on one side and the castle courtyard on the other. Access to the castle could be limited after employing the drawbridge.
The castle’s features include the grand staircase, stone vaults, several large fireplaces, and decorative pillars.
