Vaudreuil-Dorion is an off-island suburb of Montreal, in southwestern Quebec in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Regional County Municipality. The result of the merger of two towns, Vaudreuil and Dorion, the municipality’s population as of 2009 is estimated to be approximately 27,330.
Vaudreuil-Dorion is currently experiencing high population growth as farmland is converted to residential areas and commercial developments. On 23 November 1702, governor of New France Louis-Hector de Callière gave a seigneury to Philippe de Vaudreuil, who was governor of Montreal at the time. Rigaud de Vaudreuil will later become governor of New France.
