The Van Cortlandt House repository, conjointly called Frederick Van Cortlandt House or Van Cortlandt House, is that the oldest building within the The Bronx, big apple town. The house was inbuilt the Georgian vogue by Frederick Van Cortlandt (1699–1749) in 1748 for his family. Van Cortlandt died before its completion and also the property was transmissible by his son, James Van Cortlandt (1727–1787). It’s a two 1⁄2-story, formed house with a double hipped roof. It had been inbuilt 1748 of dressed rock and is representative of the high Georgian vogue.The Van Cortlandts, a mercantile family distinguished in big apple affairs, established a grain plantation and food grain mill on the property. The house was used throughout the Revolutionary War by Comte de Rochambeau, Lafayette, and Washington. In 1889, once one hundred forty years of occupancy by the Van Cortlandt family, the property was sold to town of recent royalty and created a public piece of ground. It had been additional to the National Register of Historic Places in 1967 and have become a National Historic Landmark in 1976. The house has been operated as a historic house repository since 1897, the primary within the town and fourth within the country.
