Ukhrul is a town that is situated in the Ukhrul district of the state of Manipur . The town is mainly populated by people who are known as Tangkhul Nagas. The town has a rich culture and one can have a phenomenal experience of small town life in this place. There are various dances and traditions that can be witnessed in the place and these are unique to the region. One can see women wearing a traditional dress called as Kashan and men wearing a shawl that is called Howrah. There are numerous villages that dot the region and visiting them can be a good experience as well. The villagers are friendly and hospitable. Some of the main tourist attractions in the place include numerous waterfalls and caves. One can visit the Shiroi Peak or Shirui Kashung while visiting the town. This place is well known for Shirui Lily. Some of the other tourist sites include Khankhui Cave, Dilly Waterfall, Hungdung Manga Cave, Azoa Jenephiu Magi Lake, Khayang Peak, Phangreig Picnic Spot and Nillai Tea Estate. There are numerous saline springs that are located here as well and some of them are at Kalhang, Marem, Rajai and Maramphung.

How to ReachEdit

By Air : The city of Imphal has the only major airport in the region and this is situated at a distance of around 8 kilometers from the city center. The airport is well connected to most of the major cities in the country and these include Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata. One can also travel to the place from other destinations such as Silchar and Aizwal. Taxis are available at the airport and they charge around Rs 900 for the trip.

By Train : If you are travelling by rail the only option is the station at Dimapur. This is located in the state of Nagaland at a distance of 300 kilometers from the town of Ukhrul. The station is connected to the city of Kolkata by two trains. Tier three A/C tickets cost between Rs 1000 and Rs 1300.

By BUS : Government buses are available from the city of Imphal. However these are not reliable and they are uncomfortable. Tickets are generally cheap.

By Taxi : Taxis and Auto rickshaws are easily available for moving about in the city.
