Turnišče (Hungarian: Bántornya, Prekmurian Türnišče, or Törnišča, German: Turnitz) is a town and a municipality in Slovenia. It is first mentioned in written documents dating to the 13th century. In 1524 it was granted market rights and town privileges in 1548.
The Parish Church in Turnišče is dedicated to Saint Mary and belongs to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Murska Sobota. It is a three aisled basilica, added in 1914 onto a smaller Gothic church. There is also a church dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, dating from the mid 13th century in the settlement. The apse is original Romanesque. The nave is Gothic and covered in wall paintings by the 14th century local artist Johannes Aquila who also painted the churches in Velemér, Martjanci and Fürstenfeld.
The Hungarian Slovenian poet Ferenc Sbüll and the politician Vilmos Tkálecz were born in Turnišče village.
