Detail InformationEdit

The Turk of Purbach on the chimney of the house belonging to the Weisz family (Schulgasse 9) is visible from the federal road (Türkenstrasse).
1529 / 1532: Legend has it that a drunk Turkish soldier fell asleep in Purbach when his comrades had already left town. Afraid of being caught he hid in a chimney hood, but was soon discovered. The people drove him out by lighting a fire and arrested him. He was dragged to court where it was decided that he could live if he turned to Christianity. Then he became a servant in the house where he had been found. After the Turk´s death the farmer had the stone bust erected on his chimney.
