Thiruvananthapuram is the capital city of Kerala. Thiruvananthapuram was known as Trivandrum till 1991. The Kerala government in 1991 officially reinstated its original name – Thiruvananthapuram. Located at the southwestern tip of India, Thiruvananthapuram district is bounded by the Arabian Sea on the west and Tamil Nadu on the east. With its 78 km coastline, internationally renowned beaches, historic monuments, backwater stretches and a rich cultural heritage, Thiruvananthapuram district is a much sought after tourist destination in Kerala.

By Air : Trivandrum International airport is just 10 km away from the heart of the city. The airport is well linked with all major air terminals in India and many cities abroad. Direct flights are available from Trivandrum to Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore. Trivandrum is connected to Singapore, Colombo, Muscat, Saudi and many other gulf countries. Pre-paid taxi services are available from airport to other places in city. The charges are about Rs 15 per km.

By Train : Trivandrum railway station is a major railway junction in South India. Many train services originates from here. It is connected to all parts of India by direct train services, including Jammu, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Howrah and Hyderabad.

By Bus : Kerala Road Transport Corporation buses operates ordinary, fast, super fast and Volvo buses from Trivandrum to all cities in Kerala and many cities in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Private bus operators run deluxe tourist buses from Trivandrum to Bangalore, Chennai and Kozhikode daily. The charge is about Rs 3 – Rs 4 per km.

By Other : Auto rickshaws in Trivandrum do not run on meter; however the charges are very minimal when compared to the other cities in Kerala. While travelling through an auto rickshaw, do not discuss the rate when you reach your destination. Negotiate a rate before getting into an auto rickshaw, as fares will rarely exceed Rs 70. There are no night fares and autos are a safe mode of travel. Rented Two Wheeler You can also rent out a two wheeler for around Rs 350 to 500 a day and the deposit will cost you around Rs 1500 per day.
