Trekking in Kullu, features among the main areas in Himachal Pradesh. There are several famous treks around the Kullu Valley, but most of the trails are situated beyond the Rohtang Pass in the valleys of Spiti, Lahaul, Zanskar and Ladakh. Expeditions for upto 10-12 days are organized in this area from Pin-Pass to Spiti and Manikaran to Chhota Dhara. The valley extremities are usually around 3500 m high with many villages and Buddhist monasteries positioned well above 4000 m. Most treks take about two to three weeks to complete and lead through isolated areas.The treks here pass through rough and pristine terrain, deep forests and beautiful streams. The trekkers can see many old temples that lie along the way. The best period to enjoy trekking in this region is from April to mid-June and mid-September to mid-October. The excitement of high altitude trekking is the utmost when done in the months from June to September.
Putasar Lake trekking is also a good option for trekkers. Starting from Dashal temple, it usually takes 4 days to reach the lake. Best during September and October months, such treks are organized by Juniper Outdoor pursuits Centre (9810009564), charging up to Rs 25,000 inclusive of all equipment.

Trekking in Kullu, (Hamta Trek Kullu Valley): takes 5 days trek departing from Manali and drive to Pirni Village. This trek takes you the confluence of Patpori Nalla and Hamta Nalla. The highest altitude reached is 4286 meters above sea level, where you will be also visiting temples, caves and the ruins of forts of Piti Raja. Also, includes the gradual reverse on the way famous Arjun Gufa and Shabbri temple to Manali.
Manali History Trek (Kullu Valley): 7 Days trek starting also from Manali for acclimatization, next day drive to Naggar and trek to Rumsu Village where you get a striking view of Deo Tibba and Malana Glen. Max altitude on this trek is 3960m; also include a visit to Manikaran where you will see the famous hot springs.
Chander Trail: An incredible 6 days itinerary also starting from Manali, then driving to Jagatsukh and further trekking upwards unspoiled lush green forests and moderate alpine meadows ascent in order to camp. Reaching up to 4480 m above sea level, this trek will also take you to Chamdertal area skied mountain slopes.
Dharamsala Chhota Bhangal over Sari Pass Kullu: With duration of 8 days, this trek requires previous trekking experience. Starting from Dharamsala, you will be visiting Buddhist monasteries, Tibetan settlements and beautiful tea gardens. This trek is considered as moderate and is visited by the local people and trekkers to cross Sari Pass which paves the way to Kullu valley.
Kinner Kailash Parikrama: Reaching up to 5242 meters above the sea level, this 7 days trek starting from Kalpa involves gradual climbing over Charang Ghati and easy descending. You will be also trekking along the Baspa river in the Sangla Valley where you will be getting a breathtaking view of the mountain ranges.

Taxi : This place is well connected by road.and easily accessible by taxi.There are also taxis available from the railway station. They generally charge around Rs 1200 from the railway station to the town center.
BUS : Kullu has regular bus connections from Delhi, Shimla, Pathankot, Palampur and Ambala. The main bus stand is in the Sarvari Bazaar. Buses stopping at Dhalpur. State owned bus services of Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation are available from Kullu connecting with the nearest cities. Kullu is connected to Delhi (570 km), Chandigarh (267 km), Pathankot (285 km) and Shimla (270 km) by tourist deluxe buses of Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation. These deluxe buses cost about Rs 4 per km.
Train : The closest narrow gauge railhead is at Jogindernagar, 95 kms from Kullu. The nearest railhead with best train connections is at Chandigarh, 272 kms away. From there, regular buses connect to Kullu.There are also taxis available from the railway station. They generally charge around Rs 1200 from the railway station to the town center.
Air : The closest airport to Kullu is Bhuntar airport which is situated at a distance of around 10 km from the heart of the city, Kullu. Bhuntar is currently not operational therefore Chandigarh is the airport for Kullu Vally.After getting down at the Air port, take an auto-rickshaw, bus or hire a taxi to reach the destination within the city.
Others : There are auto rickshaws in some places where the roads are not steep. There are no separate night fares. The best option is to hire private cabs from stands that are available at the street corners. Most of them charge per km and the usual rates are Rs 6 per km. Horse drawn carriages are a popular mode of transport in the town. They are cheap and can be found along the main roads.
