Annandale, Shimla

Often called as the playground of Shimla, and is a famous picnic spot. It is also a favourite ground for playing cricket or polo.It is located at a height of 6227 feet above sea level and is famous for its breath taking views of the surrounding and salubrious climate. The spot is reachable on foot, bus or taxi and some of the nearby attractions that can visited in Summer Hill and Jakhu Hill.

St Mary’s Church

Built in the year 1873, the wooden church is a total enigma for its beholders with quaint graveyards and old schools.The church is reachable by bus. Besides, the drive to the Church will take you through mustard fields, blue hills as well as the significant historical place of Thanedar, where Samuel Stokes planted the very first orchard in 1916.

Viceregal Lodge

Viceregal Lodge is a humongous structure ringed by tall pines. It was built in 1888 as the residence of Viceroy Lord Dufferin. It is now called Rashtrapati Niwas. The Lodge houses the Indian Institute of Advanced Study and is the only building in Shimla that occupies a hill by itself. Exploring the whole place will take around 1 hour.The architecture of the lodge is brilliant. A grand staircase which springs from the right and spirals up three full floors marks the hall. A grand fireplace faces the main entrance. Verandas and terraces surround the entire building at different levels which allures tourists and make the lodge totally immaculate.

Glen

The place is surrounded by pine and deodar trees, with greenery and rolling slopes making it an enjoyable tourist spot. The scenic beauty of the place charms the tourists to this reserve forest, which is also known to be Shimla’s oldest picnic place.The place is known for its serenity and the nearby falling Chadwick falls also attract a number of tourists. Glen is approachable from two different ways – from Cecil Hotel and Kennedy House. From Scandal point, which is another tourist spot, one can walk to reach Glen. Besides, taking a taxi is another option.

Kali Bari Temple

The famous Kalibari Temple of Shimla is a Popular tourist attraction and is situated at a very strategic location. The temple was built in the year 1845 and is dedicated to Goddess Kali who is also known as Shyamala. It is from the name of Goddess Shyamala that Shimla derives its name. The Kali Bari temple of Simla is a very well known religious place of India and people who come to Shimla never miss out on visiting this temple. The Kalibari temple was primarily located in Jakhu hill. The British brought it to its new site.

Camp Potters Hill

Rothney Castle

Former home of Allan Octavian Hume, a noted civil servant of British Empire in India and is also known as the ‘Father of Indian Ornithology’. Engulfed by the beautiful greens, this is under the control of Himachal government and offers panoramic views of the surrounding. Rothney Castle, which today has been converted into a heritage hotel, was then used as a museum for showcasing collection of birds. the castle is a lesser known place due to the undulating paths that one needs to cross in order to reach there.

Christ Church, Shimla

Christ Church in Shimla is the second oldest Church in India. Christ Church is one of the prominent landmarks of Shimla. The silhouette of Christ Church is visible for miles around the vicinity of Shimla city. Christ Church remains one of the enduring legacies of the British Raj.Christ Church was designed by Colonel JT Boileau in 1844; but the Church was consecrated only after 1857. The clock which adorns Christ Church was donated by Colonel Dumbleton in the year 1860. The porch was added in the year 1873.

Tara Devi Temple

Tara Devi temple is situated on the Tara Devi Mountain between Shoghi and Shimla. The location of the temple on the Hill top makes it appear that the goddess seems to keep everyone under the protective gaze ,showering innumerable blessings on her worshippers From here one can get a panoramic view of Shimla and snow-clad Himalayan range on one side, with the other side revealing the plains at a far distance. With the majestic forested mountains around, this place has high spiritual value that has a soothing and rejuvenating effect, being away from the din, noise, pollution, crowd and urban infrastructure.

Summer Hill

The place is Popular for its scenic beauty and is ideal for taking long walks. Situated between the hurdles of pine and deodar trees, Summer Hill is also known for the Georgian House of Raj Kumari Amrit Kaur, where Mahatma Gandhi once stayed.Alternatively called as Potter’s Hill, the view of the valley from here is absolutely enthralling.
