Tonina may be a pre-Columbian archaeologic website and ruined town of the Maya civilization placed in what’s currently the Mexican state of Chiapas, some thirteen kilometre (8.1 mi) east of the city of Ocosingo.
The site is medium to giant, with teams of temple-pyramids attack terraces rising some seventy one metres (233 ft) higher than a plaza, an outsized court for taking part in the Mesoamerican ballgame, and over one hundred sculptured monuments, most geological dating from the sixth century through the ninth centuries AD, duiring the Classic amount. Toniná is distinguished by its well preserved stucco sculptures and notably by its in-the-round sculptured monuments, created to Associate in Nursing extent not seen in geographical region since the top of the abundant earlier Olmec civilization.
The city is notable for having the last famous Long Count date on any Maya monument, marking the top of the Classic Maya amount in AD 909.
