Toli Masjid of Hyderabad is a magnificent monument which is about 300 years old. Toli Masjid is located at Caravan near Purana Pul. Toli Masjid was built around the 1670s by the royal architect Musa Khan during the reign of Sultan Abdullah.Toli Masjid is divided in to two halls. The outer hall has five arched openings and the inner hall has three arched openings. The parapets of the mosque are designed in the form of miniature arches with perforated screens. The architectural excellence of Toli Masjid is evident from the intricate stone work done on the outer wall that surrounds the Masjid.The prayer hall of Toli Masjid has inscriptions relating to the origin of this Masjid. As per these inscriptions, Musa Khan while working on Mecca Masjid was given a damdi for every rupee spent on Mecca Masjid. Musa Khan utilised this amount for the construction of Toli Masjid. This incident gave Toli Masjid the name ‘Damdi Masjid’.

Toli Masjid was built by Mir Musa Khan Mahaldar in 1671 AD during the rule of Sultan Abdullah Qutub Shah, it is one of the finest examples of Qutub Shahi architecture. He used architect Mecca Masjid of Hyderabad and royal architect of Sultan Abdullah Qutub Shah.Toli Masjid There is a chapter in the royal records called the “Gulzar-e-Asafia.” It mentions that when the royal architect was building Mecca Masjid, he was given one damri/damdi (coin) out of every rupee spent on it. The sum of money thus collected was used by Musa Khan to construct the Toli Masjid. Hence, this masjid is also called Damri Masjid.
