The Tōgō Shrine (東郷神社 Tōgō-jinja) was built in 1940 and dedicated to Gensui (or ‘Marshal-Admiral’) The Marquis Tōgō Heihachirō shortly after his death. It is located in Harajuku, Tokyo, Japan. There, The Marquis Tōgō Heihachirō is celebrated as a shinto kami. A small museum and a bookshop dedicated to The Marquis Tōgō are located within the grounds of the shrine.
The shrine is located near the intersection of Takeshita Street and Meiji Avenue, and is accessible from Harajuku Station. The physical remains of the Gensui (or Grand Admiral) himself are interred at Tama Cemetery in Tokyo. Until 2010, on the first and fourth Sunday of each month, one of Tokyo’s best flea markets could be found at the shrine with upwards of 100 vendors. Rare finds included inexpensive silk kimonos. This flea market has been discontinued.
