Toba is a city in Mie Prefecture, Japan. Toba is the site of the Toba Aquarium, which houses such animals as dugongs, African manatees, porpoises, and a wide-variety of aquatic life.
Toba is the hometown of Mikimoto Kōkichi, who developed a method to cultivate pearls, and Tokushichi Mishima, who invented MKM steel. Kokichi Mikimoto’s Memorial Hall is also located in Toba. It is known as Mikimoto Pearl Island.
