Tilton may be a town located on the Winnipesaukee River in Belknap County, New Hampshire, u. S.. It includes the village of Lochmere. Tilton is home to the Tilton college, a personal Gymnasium. Originally the southern part of Sanbornton, the current area of Tilton was called Sanbornton Bridge and Bridge Village. These two names ask the bridge, inbuilt 1763, that crossed the Winnipesaukee watercourse from Canterbury to Sanbornton and onto what is presently Main Street in Tilton. In 1869, Sanbornton Bridge was depart and incorporated as Tilton, named in honor of Nathaniel Tilton, whose grandchild Charles E. Tilton was the owner of textile mills and also the community’s wealthiest citizen. Nathaniel Tilton established an foundry and also the area’s first hotel, the dextral House. Charles E. Tilton donated many statues to the town, a novel feature, and his estate is currently half of the Tilton college. Tilton Hall, his former mansion designed in 1861, houses the Lucian Hunt Library.
