The riverside city of Tigre is the gateway to the Delta – a unique network of rivers, streams and islands surrounded by dense flora and fauna. Although Tigre is just half an hour’s drive out of Buenos Aires, it feels like another World. It is full of rowing clubs, boats and crumbling mansions (some now refurbished).
The best way to see the Delta is from the water. Boat trips leave frequently from Tigre and rowing boats, canoes and kayaks can be hired. Visitors can spend a day on the water, having lunch on an island and then exploring Tigre town by foot, or stay a few nights in one of the island hotels. This is an excellent area for bird watching and wildlife spotting. Look out for hummingbirds, parrots and if you are lucky, capybaras.
