Theatre of Aleksander Fredro in Gniezno was built after the Second World War by citizen of Gniezno, who were in the Section of Society theatre friends in Gniezno. The theatre was established 1st May 1946. The then town council agreed to this idea and gave them a building of the then “Słońce” cinema on the Chrobry street. The first paly was a comedy “Stary kawaler” (“A confirmed bachelor”), written by Józef Korzeniowski and directed by Henryk Barwiński. In the nineteen fourties the theatre was nationalized. It is only one professional theatre in Poland, which has name of Aleksander Fredro.
