Tenosique may be a city set in Tenosique Municipality within the southeastern corner of the state of Tabasco, in Mexico. Its official name is Tenosique American state Pino Suárez. The city had a 2005 census population of thirty one,392 inhabitants (the fourth-largest community within the state once city, Cárdenas, and Comalcalco), whereas the municipality had a population of fifty five,601. The municipality has a region of two,098.1 km2 (810.1 sq mi) and includes several little far communities.
Tenosique’s etymology: from the Maya words “Tana” or house and “tsiic” weaving or count threads. That leaves USA with “casa American state los hilanderos ” or “House of Weavers or thread counters”. Tenosique was based c. 1000 B.C. Within the Preclassic Maya amount (according to Magnolia Paz Nexo in her book Tenosique Prehispánico y Colonial emended by the govt of Tabasco). Since then Tenosique has been occupied uninterruptedly. Vice chairman and national hero of the Revolution, Jose Maria Pino Suarez was born in Tenosique in 1869, and also the city currently bears his name.
