Believed to be an incarnation of Shri Dattatreya the name of this spiritual master, popularly called Swami Samarth, is a household word in Maharashtra and the region around. As this Perfect Master chose to reside at a place called Akkalkot for 22 years where he took Mahasamadhi (left his mortal body) in 1878, he is also known as the Maharaj of Akkalkot, Akkalkot is situated in district Solapur of Maharashtra state of India. In his memory the temple of Akkalkot was made. Many devotees believe in him and visit the temple every year. The HYDRA- saifan mulk chishti dargah is situated near about 20 km from Akkalkot.

Akkalkot Niwasi Shri Swami Samartha also known as Swami Samartha Maharaj, Swami Maharaj is a household word in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Swami Samartha of Akkalkot is considered by many to be the very form of Sri Nrusimha Saraswati of Ganagapur. Occasionally, Swamy said that he was Nrusimha Bhan and that he was from kadaliban near Srisailam confirmed that he was Nrusimha Saraswati. Swamy took up numerous names at different places which made it hard to trace his travels. He plunged into mahasamadhi in 1878.

BUS : Solapur is very well connected by roads and is 45 Kms from Tuljapur, 73 Kms from Pandharpur, 95 Kms from Paranda, 274 Kms from Pune, 300 Kms from Hyderabad. You can take Solapur to Kolhapur buses and various other cities. Public transport in Solapur is primarily provided by buses operated by Solapur Municipal Transport (SMT). It is interesting to note that the only place other than Mumbai where double decker buses are in use is Solapur.

Train : Solapur falls on the rail line connecting Hyderabad to Mumbai. It is around 400 Kms from Mumbai. Regular trains are available to Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and other parts of the state and country.
