Detail InformationEdit

For almost 900 years, the monastery Klosterneuburg acts as a sacral and cultural centre. In 1133, Leopold III changed his residence to Klosterneuburg. During that same year, he entrusted the Augustinians with the administration of the monastery. In 1730, the emperor Karl VI had plans to enlarge Klosterneuburg and turn it into a mighty monasterial residence. After his death, however, the project was abandoned, and the monastery remained as a Baroque building site.
Following extensive restauration and renovation works since the time of the Baroque Age, visitors can now experience a unique combination of imperial tradition and sacral dedication, of culture and culinary delights. Openend to the public for the first time are the splendid “sala terrena”, several important medieval art treasures, the spacious monasterial park as well as the recently renovated monasterial church, which now radiates new beauty after almost six years of extensive renovation work.
Visitors can now also enjoy the newly openend restaurant “Schüttkasten” as well as the Café Escorial with its magnificent view from the terrace. Furthermore, the monastery offers a varied event programme, ranging from concerts, readings, wine seminars to the famous “barrel sliding” event during the time of celebrating the Holy Leopold. Kids from five years can become creative at the proper children’s studio.
