Detail InformationEdit
The Stanford sepulchre, set within the northwest of the Stanford field within the Stanford facility, holds the remains of the university’s soul businessman, Jr. And his oldsters Leland and Jane Stanford. The sepulchre is opened and a wreath arranged once a year (in either March or April) as a part of the Founders’ Day activities.
The original intent of the Stanfords was to make a family mansion here. They’d solely got as so much as planting a succulent garden (still present) before the death of their solely son. They modified their plans to the building of a university instead. Near could be a memorial (the Angel of Grief) to Jane Stanford’s brother, politician Lathrop. This memorial could be a 1908 copy of a 1901 copy of associate 1894 sculpture by the outstanding yankee sculptor William Wetmore Story.
