Detail InformationEdit
Steinerkirchen by the Traun River is an ancient Benedictine Parish. Rich in history, the name of Steinerkirchen itself is believed to have its roots much back in history and is derived from ´Staina´, ´Stainein´ and ´Steininachiricha´. The Church´s Patron Saint is Martin, who is depicted in the splendid 18th century altarpiece. Unfortunately the name of the artist who conceived the design is unknown.
In the Church´s south portal visitors can find evidence of a Roman settlement in Steinerkirchen. There is a 2nd or 3rd century tombstone of a Roman couple.
