Detail InformationEdit

St Kentigern’s Church, Caldbeck, (or St Mungo’s Church), is in The Village of Caldbeck, Cumbria, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Carlisle, the archdeaconry of Carlisle and the diocese of Carlisle. The church has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade I listed building. It is dedicated to Saint Kentigern, whose alternative name is Saint Mungo; hence the church’s alternative title of Caldbeck, St Mungo.
The earliest Fabric of church dates from the 12th and 13th centuries. It was built on the site of a previous church dating from the 6th century. Alterations, including rebuilding of the chancel and the addition of a chantry chapel, were made in 1512 by John Whelpdale, and in 1727 a further stage was added to the tower. In 1880 the church was restored by C. J. Ferguson; this included the timber roof of the chancel. A further restoration was carried out in 1932 by J. F. Martindale, including new windows in the aisles and clerestory and the open timber roof in the nave.
