Southern Connecticut State University (alternately SCSU or Southern) is one in all four state universities in Connecticut, and is found within the West Rock neighborhood of latest Haven, Connecticut. Supported in 1893, it’s the third-oldest field within the Connecticut State University System. Life began for Southern Connecticut State University on September 11, 1893, once 3 lecturers and eighty four students met at the recent Skinner college in city to form a biennial teacher coaching college, city State teachers college. By 1937, Southern had big into a four-year faculty with the facility to grant bachelor’s degrees.Ten years later, Southern teamed up with Yale University’s Department of Education to supply a master of science degree. In 1954, the State Board of Education licensed the institution—then referred to as city State lecturers College—to assume complete responsibility for this graduate program. In 1959, six years once the establishment had emotional to its gift location on Crescent Street, state legislation swollen Southern’s offerings to incorporate subject area programs resulting in bachelor’s degrees within the arts and sciences. At a similar time, city State junior college became Southern Connecticut State faculty.
