The city of urban center is that the county courthouse of St. Joseph County, Indiana, u. S., on the St. Joseph watercourse close to its south bend, from that it derives its name. As of the 2010 Census, the town had a complete of one hundred and one,168 residents; its Metropolitan applied mathematics space had a population of 316,663 and Combined applied mathematics space of 544,582.
It is the fourth largest town in IN, and therefore the economic and cultural hub of the Michiana region, with the University of Notre Dame settled simply to the north in unorganised Notre Dame, Indiana. The realm was originally settled within the early eighteenth century by fur traders, and established as a town in 1865. The St. Joseph watercourse formed South Bend’s economy through the mid-20th century. Watercourse access aided significant industrial development like that of Studebaker, jazz musician Chilled Plow Company and different giant firms.
