Sotomayor Square is located in Valparaiso, Chile. It is one of the main squares of the city civic and currently also serves as an important archaeological site. Originally called Plaza de la Aduana, then renamed the Palace Square, until its present name in honor of Don Rafael Sotomayor, an important minister of the nineteenth century.
Sotomayor Square is located at the foot of the Cordillera mountain and facing the Prat Pier, between Calle Serrano, Errazuriz, and Plaza Sotomayor, Puerto sector of the city.
It is surrounded by beautiful buildings of different styles, among them former Post Office building, where it currently stands the National Council for Culture and the Arts, and the building of the former Municipality, now the Commander in Chief of the Navy of Chile.
