With a fine blend of old and new, the city is dotted with contemporary buildings as well as ancient structures. Glimpse of Romans, Ottomans and Yugoslavians rule in Skopje is finely depicted in its Byzantine churches, Turkish mosques and neoclassical homes. The colorful Old Skopje Bazaar with its bustling shops, narrow lanes reflects the Islamic culture during the Ottoman rule.
