Sivakasi is town that is located in the Virudhunagar District in the State of Tamil Nadu. Sivakasi is renowned for its fire crackers industry. There are over 400 manufacturers of fire crackers that are located in the town of Sivakasi. Sivakasi supplies fire cracker to most parts of the State and the country during the festival season. It produces around 90% of the total fire cracker production in the country.The town is also famous for manufacturing colorful pictures and calendars. Sivakasi is home to many important temples and there are many celebrations that take place in these temples during the various local festivals. Sivakasi is an old town and has been around for more than 600 years. The town was ruled by the ruler of for a long period. Sivakasi is famous for its Shiva Temple which has a Shiva lingam that was brought down from Kasi. Numerous devotees come from various parts of the State to visit the place. Thirumalai Naicker and King Pandia are credited with building the Viswanatha Temple. This is another important place to visit in the city. There are numerous festivals such as Chithirai Pongal and Panguni Pongal that are celebrated during the months of April and May.
